How To Make A Park Home Insurance Claim

If you know how to make a park home insurance claim, the process can be a lot easier if the need ever arises. We know that you may find yourself in distressing circumstances because of an event for which you need to claim. The clearer you are about the steps that need to be taken, the easier the process will be.

Knowing what to expect can help, so this guide is here to help you. Knowing you have good insurance cover for you and your park home can bring peace of mind, as you can rest easy in the knowledge that you can access help should you need it. The true test, however, is of course when you find you do need to make that claim.

At Park Home Assist, we understand how important this is and aim to make the process as smooth and hassle-free as possible. We hope that you’ll find these tips useful.

Making the phone call

Call our dedicated claims team at Davies Group on 0344 856 3810 as soon as you can. They are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and this is a dedicated claims line staffed by our award-winning team so they will be ready and available to help you.  Remember that if the event for which you need to claim requires the attendance of the emergency services, your first call should be to them. If you are claiming for theft, you should inform the police immediately and obtain an incident number from them. It may affect your claim if you do not do this. There will be a time limit on making a claim. It is a good idea to familiarise yourself with your own policy, so that you do not leave it too late. A late call could mean you are not covered.

Checking your policy

It is a good idea to keep any policy documents you have in one place, so that you can access them easily. Also, check through your policy to see, for instance, if you are claiming for new-for-old replacements on any lost or damaged items. You can also check what you are and are not covered for. An insurance policy is not a maintenance contract. Everyday wear and tear is not covered in your park home insurance and it is your responsibility to maintain your property to a certain level. It is a good idea to keep records of maintenance work and any repairs that have been carried out on your property, as it may relate to your claim. There is also other useful information within your policy document which you should refer to if needed, click here to view your park home insurance policy document.

Gathering evidence to make your park home insurance claim

In any insurance claim things will run more smoothly if you can provide the right evidence. This may be in the form of photos, video and written documents like receipts and records of work done. To help in this, our claims team at Davies Group use the latest video app technology on your mobile phone or tablet to gather evidence. They will take you through a simple process to assist you to download the app and use it to get the evidence they need to process your claim as swiftly as possible.

Assessing your claim – Loss Adjuster

In some cases, we will need to send out a loss adjuster to you. Even though they are hired by us (you are also free to engage your own loss adjuster at your own expense), they are independent experts who will assess the damage. They will ask a number of questions and make a report, which will usually contain a settlement amount. If you can use the video app to gather evidence, a loss adjuster may not be necessary.

Getting an estimate

In the majority of cases, where repairs or replacements are needed, you will need to get an estimate for a replacement, or from a tradesperson for repairs. If there is damage to your park home, we can recommend a specialist repairer for park homes. You are free to use your own tradesperson, however they will have to submit their estimate for the work required before your claim is approved.

Paying the excess

Almost all insurance policies have an excess now. The excess will depend on what your claim is for and these are detailed within your insurance schedule with your policy document. If you can’t locate this, then give us a call at Park Home Assist and we will advise you of your excess.
